Masterchef: The Professionals is coming back to our screens on Monday 4 November 2013 and with it comes 24 episodes of recipe hits and misses. The format remains the same in the sixth season of the hit TV show, with Monica Galetti and Gregg Wallace taking the helm and putting the 8 contestants through their paces.
You can expect some big egos and flamboyant styles from the outset this year, with the invention test producing some interesting and sometimes positive signs of quality from chefs located around the UK.
In the first invention test the chefs are required to produce a dish from a limited set of ingredients that include mascarpone, mushrooms, artichokes, quinoa and chocolate. Monica sets the standard by taking up the challenge herself, producing a recipe for Gregg that displays a myriad of styles, techniques and originality that would make the most seasoned chef shake with fear. Once Monica has brought the chefs down to earth with a bang, it's their turn to try and impress, who can do something a little different and set themselves a level above the others? it's the detail at this early stage that will help keep them in the competition.
The comfort blanket remains in place for the first episode of Masterchef: The Professionals as no one goes home at this stage but, that blanket is firmly removed for the second day when the chefs will be put through a gruelling skills test by Monica before meeting Michel Roux Jr for the first and possibly last time.
Michel Roux Jr puts on a masterclass in classic French cuisine, setting the bar ever higher and opening up a whole world of techniques and styles to the chefs before deciding who will stay and who will go.
